As the Chinese saying goes, “A picture's meaning can express ten thousand words.” Can there be anything more beautiful than this picture-perfect, relatively undiscovered beach only ten miles north of Kailua Kona?

Kuki`o beach is located within the Hualalai Resort complex and adjacent to the Kuki`o Golf Course. This area of the coast has recently been developed and access to this beach has been improved to accommodate the high end residents and guests. Entry to the hotel complex is unrestricted but beach parking is limited to just 40 spaces. Plan to arrive early for a spot.

Stop at the gatehouse for a shoreline access parking pass and directions to the beach road. Restrooms, showers, and drinking water are located at the beach end of the parking lot. A paved pathway leads from parking past anchialine ponds and a canoe shed to the beach. Sea turtles haul out onto this and nearby Kikaua Point beach for sunning and nesting. Law requires that you do not disturb them - stay at least twenty feet away.

Although there are some shady areas near the beach, we recommend you bring your own portable shade. And at the end of your day consider watching sunset from the Beach Tree Bar at the nearby Four Seasons Resort, Hualalai .

  1. Be Sun Safe

  2. The tropical sun can be brutal. Even in the shade of a beach umbrella, reflected sunlight can burn unprotected skin. You wouldn’t want to spoil your vacation on the first day, so we advise that you wear waterproof sunblock (SPF 50 is appropriate for most beach activities) and reapply it at least once during your time at the beach. Be sure to sunscreen the tops of your feet and the tops of your ears.
